Disney’s live-action Snow White generated more carbon emissions during its UK production than the latest Fast & Furious film, despite the latter’s association with fuel-heavy vehicles. Along with The Little Mermaid, it ranks among Disney’s most polluting UK shoots since environmental reporting began in 2019. Both films were shot at Pinewood Studios and benefited from millions in UK tax rebates, yet their combined emissions exceeded those of several UK airports and major entertainment venues. Despite some eco-friendly practices, the films’ environmental impact remains significant. Snow White also struggled at the box office, with projected losses of over $100 million.

The BFI Film on Film Festival returns to BFI Southbank and BFI IMAX from 12–15 June 2025, celebrating the magic of analogue cinema with every film projected from original prints. Highlights include the original 1977 version of Star Wars on opening night and a rare 35mm screening of the Twin Peaks pilot, introduced by star Kyle MacLachlan. The programme features over 75 films across formats from 8mm to IMAX, including premieres of new 35mm prints, rare nitrate screenings, cult classics, and archival treasures. Events, workshops, and talks complement this one-of-a-kind celebration of film in its purest form.
